Growing Pains

For the days
when your waistline
feels more like
a coastline,
do not blame the
wind and waves,
there’s simply
more of you
to kiss the shore.

For quite some time [lately] I have felt a little uncomfortable in my own skin. Not because I have a problem with how I look – that phase of life has long since passed. Moreso because a combination of the aging process and laziness has left my metabolism hibernating and as a result, I don’t [comfortably] fit into a number of my clothes.

A small part of me wants to accept it and slip deeper into the false sense of fluffy security that the extra pounds have brought with them, but in case you haven’t read my “About” page, personal style is of interest to me and I have not the time, money nor inclination to replace my current wardrobe – I like it as it is.

This is more of an accountability post as well as a reminder to love my/yourself irrespective of aesthetic changes. Having said that, if you don’t like something that you have the power to change (weight / job / social circle / fitness), stop complaining and take steps to reorient! It won’t happen overnight but even the longest and hardest journeys begin with the first step.

On that note… does anyone want to come to the gym with me? I want a buddy.

  1. I hear you on the metabolism…how weight would fall off in uni due to stress and a chaotic diet. Neither works now. But like you said I can’t beat myself up even though mentally I’m forever young the body is not so I just gotta take more care of it. And if I lose weight over a year or two due to lil gradual changes thats better and will be long lasting than anything hugely radical. I like to follow on insta is @banhass she is hilarious and delivers real truths on our relationship with our body, food, fitness and managing it all. Check her out. X

I hear you on the small gradual changes for more long-lasting results. Whatever size we are, as long as we’re healthy, it’s all good! As we always say… we’re ageing well so thank God! x

    1. Thank you lovely! I wrote it before I wrote the blog post. It basically inspired the post lol.
Maybe I can just come to your house and we can do a home workout together? x

  2. I hear you on that. I feel the same exact way. I’m too lazy to exercise I need someone to motivate me. It’s such a pain but my waistline continues expanding so I need to do something about it fast. Actually wrote a post about it the other day. Keep up the good work this was a great read.

    1. Thank you for reading. Having someone to exercise with would motivate me more but in lieu of that, I need to figure out a way to get moving! Lol. We can keep each other accountable if you want? I’ll check out your post 😊
