It’s my birthday in two days…Yay! Having said that, if not for people reminding me of this fact and asking what I’m doing to celebrate, or enquiring about what I want for my birthday, I probably would have forgotten. I just didn’t feel like planning anything.
Having said that, one of my friends kindly reminded me that every additional day, let alone year, that I’m alive is something to celebrate so suggested that I mark it in some way. So, I plan on arranging / attending small events that will bring me joy and if anyone would like to come along then great! That way, it’s less stressful and I’d be doing things I like as opposed to what others want me to do.
Ordinarily I get really uncomfortable when people [that aren’t my nuclear family] ask me what I want for my birthday. I’m not as bold as some of my friends when it comes to making requests concerning gifts. I tend not to expect anything from anyone and if I do get something it’s a blessing. Plus I LOVE surprises so my response is always “please don’t feel compelled to get me anything but if you would like to then feel free to surprise me with something of your choice.”
Oftentimes the response is a look of pure dread because it would seem that not everyone loves gift-shopping and surprising others as much as I do? Earlier in the year a friend of mine said they wanted to write a birthday wish list but was uncertain and I encouraged them to do so. Low and behold, he got almost everything on his list so now he’s suggested I do the same.
I have another friend who writes a list every year and sends it to us, which kinda’ seems a little forward, but at least it lets people know precisely what she wants right? Admittedly, a lot of what I want is not featured on my wish list but here are a few items I’d like at the moment:
- Olivia Burton Animal Motif Moulded Bee Watch in Tan and Gold here
2. Vivienne Westwood Bow Bag in Bordeaux here
3. Swarovski Tennis Bracelet in Silver here
4. Christian Louboutin Heels (the ones I want have disappeared so either) here or here
5. Clear Kilner Glass (x2) here
6. Paperchase Planner here
7. Zara Backpack With Zip here
A Birthday – Poem by Christina Georgina Rossetti
My heart is like a singing bird
Whose nest is in a water’d shoot;
My heart is like an apple-tree
Whose boughs are bent with thickset fruit;
My heart is like a rainbow shell
That paddles in a halcyon sea;
My heart is gladder than all these
Because my love is come to me.
Raise me a dais of silk and down;
Hang it with vair and purple dyes;
Carve it in doves and pomegranates,
And peacocks with a hundred eyes;
Work it in gold and silver grapes,
In leaves and silver fleurs-de-lys;
Because the birthday of my life
Is come, my love is come to me.
